Sharon E. Milligan, associate professor and associate dean for Academic Affairs and Student Services, has been reappointed to the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Katherine A. Kendall Institute for International Social Work Education (Kendall Institute) Advisory Board effective July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2022.

The Kendall Institute Advisory Board is a policy-making body of experts from the international social work community that works with the CSWE Commission on Global Social Work Education and its two Councils (Global Social Issues and Global Learning and Practice) to foster partnerships and collaboration among international non-governmental organizations.

The Kendall Institute promotes standards of excellence for international social work curricula and seeks to enrich perspectives, understandings, collaboration and networking in the social work community. The top priorities of the Advisory Board are to promote the development of international scholars and to support the development of students to practice with international perspectives locally and globally. Additionally, Milligan will conduct seminars and discussions on timely global issues. She has been involved with the Kendall Institute before–traveling to Havana, Cuba with other U.S. social work faculty to understand social work practice in Cuba.

The Kendall Institute was established in 2004 with the mission to promote initiatives within the American social work education community. It seeks to equip practitioners and researchers with appropriate knowledge and requisite skills within an increasingly interdependent global community. Members of the Advisory Board are representatives and members of CSWE and its international partners: the International Association of Schools of Social Work, the North American and Caribbean Association of Schools of Social Work, and the chair of the CSWE Commission on Global Social Work Education.
