Case Western Reserve University offers a Gender-Inclusive Housing (GIH) program in which students live in a housing option not based upon the residents' sex. This program—which began in the 2015-16 academic year through a collaboration among the Offices of University Housing and Residence Life, the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and the LGBT Center—aims to create a supportive and comfortable living environment for all students.
Gender-inclusive housing is open to all students but is especially intended for those who prefer to be in a housing situation not based upon their sex.
The program takes place in a quad-style residence hall in CedarMag Residential Community. One quad has space for nine students (4 double rooms and 1 single) and shares a bathroom. The single room will be for the Resident Assistant (RA) for the floor. Additional quads are opened as needed, based upon demand.
We will reach out to students who express interest on their housing application to complete an additional questionnaire. Information from this will assist in completing roommate matches and housing assignments. Lifestyle characteristics from your housing application will also be used to match roommates.
Please indicate on your housing application that you want to live in GIH and we will contact you about this program.
If you are looking for specific housing options but don't think this is the right choice for you, please contact the LGBT Center (216.368.1237 or email lgbt@case.edu) and request to speak with Devin Taylor, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator from the LGBT Center or contact University Housing (216.368.3780 or email housing@case.edu) and request to speak to Christian Watts, Housing Assignments Coordinator, to discuss additional housing options.
