Dr. Dirajlal-Fargo is a practicing pediatric infectious disease physician at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Her research interests include non-infectious complications of HIV with a specific focus on cardiovascular, neurocognitive co-morbidities and the effect of chronic inflammation in children infected and affected by HIV in sub-Saharan Africa and in the US. She has worked in several countries in sub-Saharan Africa focused on pediatric HIV care, treatment and policy. She worked for the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative in Malawi and Burkina Faso, and served as a consultant for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation in South Africa. She completed her pediatric infectious disease fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C. Her research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Pediatric HIV AIDS Cohort Study. She has received several awards for her research both from the National Institutes of Health and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society. She was selected to join the International Affairs Committee in the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and sits on the UH Roe Green Center for Travel Medicine and Global Health Advisory Board. She was an advisory board member to the Kaufman World Medicine Pathway from 2019-2021 prior to becoming faculty co-director in January 2022. She has successfully mentored many students in global health research projects and has a passion for training and mentoring the next generation of scientists in global health.
