To the Faculty, Staff, and Students of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine:
The School of Medicine is firmly committed to supporting all faculty members, staff, and students affected by the president’s executive order on immigration and travel. As a school with a global reputation for excellence, we and the patients we ultimately serve benefit greatly from the free exchange of ideas and the many contributions from people the world over who have joined our family.
In conjunction with President Snyder and colleague institutions and professional associations, we are tracking the situation closely and will provide more details as they become available.
As you probably know, there have been several actions taken by judges in response to this order; the broader legal implications, however, remain uncertain.
We are compiling and documenting the effects of the executive order on our school. I have already heard from some of you about hardships this order will wreak on your lab, your personnel, or you yourself. I am pleased to continue to hear about these issue, but I also request that you contact Carolyn Gregory (carolyn.gregory@case.edu) if you, your students, or colleagues are affected by this executive order. Please contact her with any questions you may have as well.
In addition, University officials from the departments of international affairs, student affairs, and human resources will host an informational meeting regarding the order and available campus resources at 4:30 p.m. today (Monday, Jan. 30) in Ford Auditorium.
I know that we all have strong opinions on the current situation. I want to urge you to continue to respect the values, contributions, and beliefs of every member of the School of Medicine family. Our common pursuit of biomedical excellence in teaching and research is a far more powerful unifier than any surface differences that may exist.
