I am pleased to announce Cynthia Kubu, PhD, ABPP-CN, has been appointed Vice Dean for Faculty for Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

One of our top strategic priorities is building and enhancing collaborations with faculty across our five campuses—Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic, Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, MetroHealth System and University Hospitals. These collaborations are essential to creating integrated teams of experts who foster a cohesive interdisciplinary education and research environment. Dr. Kubu's demonstrated leadership in this effort as interim vice dean has been evident, and I am pleased that she will be leading faculty development efforts to increase engagement to help build these collaborations.

Cynthia Kubu"I am honored to serve as the vice dean for faculty," says Kubu. "In this role, my primary goal is to support faculty across all five campuses so all faculty can flourish at all stages of their careers at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine."

Dr. Kubu's commitment to championing academic professionalism grounded in integrity, respect, kindness and inclusive excellence will foster a collaborative culture for our faculty, staff and students. She will work to establish a culture and opportunities for professional growth rooted in an understanding of the importance of individual differences and needs.

Her role includes oversight for the Office of Faculty Affairs, the dean's interface with the Faculty Council, and the Faculty Appointment, Promotions and Tenure Committee. Working with the School of Medicine Faculty Affairs team, she will strive to improve processes to more efficiently accommodate the dramatic increase (and anticipated future increases) in the number of faculty the school serves. She will also work to expand existing faculty development and promotion resources and develop new ones to address faculty (and staff) professional development goals across their career cycle.

Dr. Kubu is a professor of neurology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University (CCLCM) and is a neuropsychologist with expertise in brain-behavior relationships and cognitive assessment. Elected as a Fellow in the American Psychological Association (APA), she was recognized for her contributions to the field and is board certified through the American Board of Professional Psychology in Clinical Neuropsychology.

Working primarily throughout her career in functional neurosurgery teams (e.g., epilepsy, surgery, deep brain stimulation (DBS)), Dr. Kubu was a key member of several innovative DBS clinical trials in addition to helping establish international guidelines in that area.  Dr. Kubu's research as an independent investigator has been funded by the NIH BRAIN initiative with an interdisciplinary focus on clinical ethics, neuroscience, psychology and neuromodulation.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Kubu, and please contact her for your topics of interest as they arise.

Thank you,
