What is RPA?
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a tool designed to assist, not replace, employees. It uses software bots to automate repetitive, rule-based tasks like data processing, report generation, and communications, freeing up time for more valuable work. By reducing manual effort, RPA enables employees to focus on tasks that require creativity and problem-solving.
For example, a payroll bot can reduce a 40-hour manual process down to just 1 hour. In fact, at the CWRU SOM, 20 bots are currently helping with tasks such as processing student financial aid forms, conducting employee reviews, and managing financial reports. These bots have collectively saved about 8,000 staff hours annually, which is equivalent to the workload of four full-time employees.
RPA is not about taking jobs—it's about making work more efficient and meaningful. Automating tedious processes allows employees to focus on higher-level tasks that require human judgment and insight, creating more opportunities for growth and innovation.
