A charitable educational fund has been established in memory of esteemed colleague Professor Noa Noy. The fund is currently accepting donations to provide early-career scientists the opportunity to attend the annual Retinoid conference of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB).
Dr. Noy earned her PhD from Tel Aviv University (Israel) and trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the Weizmann Institute for Sciences (Israel) and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). In 1992, she launched her independent research program as an assistant professor at Cornell Weill Medical College. Her long and productive career included professorial positions at Cornell University, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Lerner Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Noy’s research focused on deciphering the biological actions of lipid-soluble nutrients and hormones, primarily fatty acids and retinoids. Findings from Noy’s group uncovered how these compounds impact cellular behavior by modulating gene expression, cell signaling, and metabolism. These basic findings illuminated a diverse array of biomedical questions, including cancer biology, glucose homeostasis and circadian rhythms.
Throughout her career, Dr. Noy was an avid and dedicated educator. She was a mentor and advisor to numerous students and trainees whom she treated as her family and went to great efforts to support their growth and success. The fund was established in her name to support the participation of promising students and postdoctoral trainees at Dr. Noy’s ‘home’ society, the FASEB International Conference on Retinoids. FASEB is the sole platform where cutting-edge basic and applied research on vitamin A biology is shared amongst scholars from all levels and affiliations throughout the world.
