Developing good assessments implies using assessment methods that gather precise, relevant, and credible evidence to support its validity. Validity is the fundamental cornerstone in assessment. Performance-based assessments and multiple-choice questions (MCQs) are widely used in medical schools to make judgments about students’ progression and advancement. How is validity defined in the current literature? What data and information can be sought in accumulating valid evidence? What strategies can be used to demonstrate valid evidence for performance-based assessment and MCQs? This workshop will take you on a journey through the fundamental principles of test validity and item-level analysis, revealing the techniques and methodologies that underpin valid and reliable assessments. It will be an interactive session where participants will have an opportunity to reflect on assessment results and apply some of the techniques to their assessment.
