Need-based Scholarship for MD Students
The Office of Financial Aid administers the scholarship or grant money from a variety of sources including federal funds, institutional grants, and endowments.
The election of the amount of monies to be given is related to the total award given to the student. The grant guidelines are determined by the school and reflect the amount of grant or scholarship funds to be awarded. This scholarship or grant amount awarded does not have to be repaid. However, the funds are limited so the guidelines are used to distribute the money fairly to each individual student who has need. Scholarships are awarded based on the budget set by the Financial Aid Office for each class.
Merit Scholarship - The Dean’s Scholarship for MD Students
- Given the economic impact of COVID-19 (including job loss, furlough, or reduced income), we anticipate that students matriculating into the 2021 class of the University Program of the CWRU School of Medicine will likely demonstrate greater financial need as compared to past years. In recognition of these unique circumstances, the School of Medicine has made the decision to focus our resources on helping to meet this need, and will be awarding only need-based aid this upcoming academic year for the 2021-2022 incoming class.
Case Western Reserve University has a merit based scholarship for which incoming medical students are eligible. The Dean’s Scholarship is a renewable scholarship.
The scholarships are renewable each year for a maximum of four years based on satisfactory academic progress as determined by the scholarship committee. Application for this scholarship is by invitation of the admissions committee only and awardees will be notified in early April.
Outside Scholarship Inventory
The Office of Financial Aid encourages students to seek scholarship support from all sources. Outside scholarships first reduce self-help (loans) to the extent previously awarded.
The combination of aid from all sources cannot exceed a student’s cost of attendance for a particular academic year. Support or benefits specifically designated for tuition cannot be combined for any amount over the cost of tuition for a particular academic year.
The Office of Financial Aid has created and will be maintaining an outside scholarship inventory. Please take the time to review the inventory and earmark the scholarships that you would like to apply for.
