Congratulations to Case Med Pride, the School of Medicine's LGBTQ+ student organization, recently winning the Chapter of the Year Award for 2021 through the Medical Student Pride Alliance (MSPA). The award recognizes an outstanding national chapter's achievements that exemplify the mission of MSPA.
Case Med Pride's application cited the chapter's work in 2020 which focused on:
- Education: enhancing LGBTQ+ diversity and representation in the pre-clerkship curriculum and providing an LGBTQ+ health elective for 2nd-year students.
- Advocacy: hosting a socially distanced in-person vigil for transgendered lives impacted by violence, hosting a webinar series on intersex members of our community, and providing for their health needs
- Social: hosting a variety of trivia parties and a virtual drag show
A special thank you to Dr. Laura Mintz, who has been the Case Med Pride faculty advisor and helped get the group off the ground on so many of these initiatives! Special thanks to everyone who offered much support!
The MSPA is an activist and social organization committed to empowering sexual and gender minority medical students and allies, increasing the number of physicians trained in LGBTQ-inclusive healthcare, and addressing the unique needs of queer communities through research, advocacy, education, and service.
