As a future physician, Devin Barzallo wants to promote healthy equity and improve healthcare access for marginalized communities. The American Medical Association Foundation has taken note of Barzallo's commitment to serving vulnerable and underserved populations—awarding him the Underrepresented in Medicine Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship of $10,000 toward his tuition at Case Western Reserve University.
Barzallo is grateful for the financial support and the opportunities Case Western Reserve offers.
“The university’s flexible curriculum provided me with ample opportunities for growth outside the classroom, said Barzallo. “I was able to pursue leadership, community service and advocacy roles and continued my passion in biomedical research. I am thankful for my research mentors within the university and during my research year at the National Institutes of Health.”
Barzallo, who now considers Cleveland and Case Western Reserve home, plans to apply for dermatology residencies this fall.
