International Law Society

The ILS is a student organization interested in international law and world affairs. As one of the largest student organizations on campus, the ILS provides many unique opportunities for its members by planning both social and academic activities. As a chapter of the International Law Student Association, a national organization, the ILS lets students know of international legal events going on around the globe.

The CWRU ILS Chapter provides:

Discussion

A forum for students to discuss and learn more about international issues. We cosponsor visiting foreign lecturers with the Frederick K. Cox International Law Center. In previous years, the ILS has hosted several student led discussions and movie nights on controversial international topics. CWRU has an amazing Jessup International Law and North America Moot Court team, which the ILS has supported in recent years. Finally, the ILS hosts an entire week of internationally focused lunch events for all law school students on careers, study abroad, international human rights and international business opportunities.

Networking

ILS members attend luncheons with the Greater Cleveland International Lawyers Group (GCILG), one of the largest groups of lawyers in the country with an international focus. Also, the ILS keeps students informed of international job openings by working closely with the CSO.

Social Events

The ILS has sponsored a number of social events including Festivus, a multi-cultural food celebration, and an International Beer Tasting in coordination with the SBA and many other student organizations. At these two main social events, the ILS raised over $1000 for charities such as Hearts for Haiti, International AIDS week and the Invisible Children! We also host dynamic film screenings on international legal issues.
