Dr. Bussey will discuss the development of the modern medical profession and the Golden Age of Medicine into the current virtual medical industrial paradigm.  He will highlight the parallels of 19th factory workers to 21st century physicians, and offer unionization as an option to level the playing field with medical industrialists. Specific legal contract articles and collective bargaining strategies will be discussed.  Speaker Bio Dr. Stuart Bussey has been the President of the Union of American Physicians and Dentists, AFSCME Local 206, headquartered in Sacramento, California since 2006. Bussey has been a Board certified Family Physician, as well as an FAA Flight surgeon since 1985. He has served as Medical Director of an IPA and member of his hospital’s (John Muir) Executive Committee. From 1990 to 2009 he was a California State Medical Consultant, evaluating Social Security disability claims. Since then he has been involved in patient care and Union negotiating, lobbying, testimony and organizing. Bussey graduated with a BA cum laude from Dartmouth College, received an MA in Human Development at the University of Chicago, an MD from Loyola-Stritch Medical School, and his JD from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He has been a member of the California State Bar since 1994. He has been a fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine where he served on the editorial board of Legal Lessons.
