Event Description
Case Western Reserve University School of Law will hold a program honoring the late Professor Sidney Picker, Jr., on Wednesday, October 7, at 4:30 p.m. The program will take place via Zoom. Co-Dean Michael Scharf will moderate the program, which will include tributes from many of Professor Picker’s former colleagues and students as well as speakers from around the world.
An expert on international law, international trade and international negotiations, Professor Picker was the founder, the first U.S. director, and advisory board chair of the Canada-United States Law Institute, which is jointly operated by CWRU and the University of Western Ontario, and also was the first director of CWRU’s Frederick K. Cox International Law Center. He was on the board of Southern African Legal Services and was a scholar in residence at the Legal Resources Centre, a human rights organization in South Africa. After retiring from full-time teaching, Professor Picker cofounded the Russian-United States Legal Foundation, which has brought many Russian law students to this country.
