Event Description
Professor Leon Gabinet (1927-2021) taught taxation at Case Western Reserve University School of Law for over 50 years. He was one of the most popular members of the faculty, and he may also have been the most influential, as this program in his honor will illustrate. Moderated by Professor Jonathan Entin, the program will feature three graduates of the law school—and former students of Leon’s—who rose to the very top of the tax profession: Tom Callahan (LAW ‘85), a partner at Thompson Hine LLP, president of the American College of Tax Counsel in 2013-2015, and chair of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation in 2019-2020; Don Korb (LAW ‘73), Of Counsel to Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service in 2004-2008; and Mark Weinberger (LAW ’87), former global chair and CEO of EY and assistant secretary of the Treasury for Tax Policy in 2001-2002. They will reminisce about Leon, about the practice of tax law, and about the law school’s legacy in this field. The program will also be opened up for those in the audience who would like to say a few words about Leon.
