Joe Custer is Associate Professor of Law & Director of the Law School's Judge Ben C. Green Law Library. He teaches Advanced Legal Research, Electronic Discovery and Technology in Law Practice. His scholarship has primarily been in legal research, administration and issues pertaining to social justice. He has recently been writing in freedom of expression, books, libraries, censorship, and cancel culture areas.
Custer joined Case Western Reserve University in 2015 after serving five years as Assistant Professor of Law & Director of the Vincent C. Immel Law Library, teaching Advanced Legal Research and Electronic Discovery. He began his career in higher education at the University of Kansas School of Law Wheat Law Library, where he was promoted three times to Associate Director of the Law Library in 15 years.
Before academia, Custer was the Director of Information Services/Attorney at Gage & Tucker in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a member of the Supreme Court of the United States Bar and the State of Missouri Bar. In addition to his JD, Custer holds Master's in Library and Informational Science and Master's in Business Administration degrees.
