Building upon Co-Dean Michael Scharf’s concept of “Grotian Moments” (paradigm shifts and tipping points in international law), as set out in his two recent books published by Cambridge University Press, the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg convened an international workshop on March 26-27, 2021, entitled “Grotian Moments in International Law.”

Dean Scharf was invited to present a paper on “Grotian Moments: The Concept.” Twenty-two international law experts from across the globe then presented papers on the application of the Grotian Moment concept to a variety of areas. The workshop papers will be published in a book by Brill.
