CWRU Law School ranks 45th best in placing graduates in Big Law

Cleveland is home to some of the largest and most prestigious law firms in the country and Case Western Reserve University, with the top Bar Pass rate in the State and 20th best in the nation, has a history of extraordinary success in placing its grads in major law firms in Cleveland, as well as other big cities across the country. 

A recent study based on 2020 ABA data ranked CWRU Law School 45th best in the nation based on the percentage of recent grads that obtained positions at firms with 100 or more lawyers across the country.     

This year, Jones Day, the 5th largest U.S. law firm, hired five School of Law 2021 graduates as associates. Forty Jones Day attorneys in Cleveland, New York, and Washington, D.C. are CWRU alumni.  

Meanwhile, 28 graduates of CWRU are attorneys at Squire Patton Boggs, the 16th largest law firm in the U.S. The managing partner of the firm’s flagship Cleveland Office is a CWRU graduate, Michelle Connell. For the past two years, Squire has hired a CWRU 3L to be an associate in the firm’s top-ranked International Arbitration practice group which is headed by CWRU Law adjunct professor Stephen Anway.

Other large firms in Cleveland with a significant number of CWRU alumni working as attorneys include BakerHostetler (56 CWRU alumni), Tucker Ellis (41 CWRU alumni), Benesch Friedlander (40 CWRU alumni), Ulmer & Berne (33 CWRU alumni), Calfee Halter (30 CWRU alumni), Thompson Hine (27 CWRU alumni), Reminger Co., LPA (27 CWRU alumni), Vorys (25 CWRU alumni), McDonald Hopkins (22 CWRU alumni) and Hahn Loeser (18 CWRU alumni).
