Jessup team excels at Worlds, wins top speaker awards

After winning the West Coast National Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Portland, OR in March, the CWRU Jessup team excelled in the World Championship Rounds in Washington, D.C., from March 31 to April 6.  

The CWRU team (composed of Will Baker, Ellie Buerk, Elise Manchester, Naomi Matthusen and Brianna Schmidt) went 3-1 in the preliminary rounds, beating Luxembourg, Canada and Israel, and losing only to Uzbekistan. They went on to defeat Guatemala in the first elimination round and then lost a close match against India in the round of 32.  

The CWRU team was ranked 21st out of 160 teams from 80 countries in the world after the preliminary rounds. At the closing ceremony, plaques were awarded to the top 25 speakers in the world. Will Baker won the 6th best speaker award and Brianna Schmidt won the 25th best speaker award out of 640 competitors.
