On July 23, 2020, Visiting Professor Katharine Van Tassel testified before the Ohio Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights as an invited panelist. The hearings were entitled Civil Rights and Equity in the Delivery of Medical and Public Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Ohio.
At the hearings, the Committee considered state and federal responses to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Pandemic in an examination of health disparities on the basis of race, color, age, disability or other federally protected categories. Based on this testimony, the Committee will be writing a report that will be submitted to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights for its review and for publication on its website.
The U.S. Commission regularly chooses issues from among the state advisory committee reports for one of its national hearings.
