On Friday, Oct. 25, the Center for Business Law co-hosted the Ohio Securities Conference with The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Securities. This is the fifty-first year of the annual event that brings together leading experts in securities law to discuss cutting-edge securities regulation issues. This year, the event moved from Columbus to Case Western Reserve University’s campus for the first time.
This year’s theme was Insights, Innovations and Implications: Securities Law and Industry in 2024 and Beyond. The event included the following panels: Agency Deference Following Loper and TWISM: What Happens Now?; Securities Regulation: A Federal Viewpoint; Artificial Intelligence and the Securities Industry; Ohio Division of Securities Section Updates; Cryptocurrency and the State of the Law: A Discussion; Securities Law at the U.S. Supreme Court: An Update; and Beyond the Definition: Accredited Investors and the Purpose of Registration Exemptions. In discussing the event, professor Eric Chaffee stated, “It’s an honor to partner with the Ohio Division of Securities. This event is an outgrowth of that commitment.” He continued, “The Division’s commitment to investor education is a natural fit with the School of Law’s commitment to being a leader in legal education.”
The Center for Business law at Case Western, which is co-directed by professors Juliet P. Kostritsky and Eric C. Chaffee, is an initiative to prepare future leaders to understand business issues facing business entities, engage in research on the role and impact of government in the regulation of business and to foster public debate regarding the role of government in the regulation of businesses. It is part of the robust business law curriculum at the law school.
