Add to Calendar: Add to Calendar: 2025-10-22 09:00:00 2025-10-22 14:45:00 Greenland: Sovereignty, Security and Arctic Cooperation Event Description Greenland has been a focus of attention as the Arctic thaws and the desire for resources increases. Greenland is a country rich in natural resources and critical minerals located largely within the Arctic that is home to 57,000 people and is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. The United States has expressed its interest in increasing its already significant presence in Greenland. Russia has established more military bases in the Arctic than any other country by a wide margin and continues to militarize its portion of the Arctic with the intention of dominating the Northeast Passage and not recognizing that passage as consisting of international waters. China has identified itself as a country with interests in the Arctic, although it has no physical presence there. Canada is second only to Russia in the amount of land that it has within the Arctic, and it works in unison with the United States in protecting the security of North America’s Arctic region.  Speakers will include a Denmark and Greenland Delegation representation discussion as well as panels addressing journalist perspectives on the challenges facing Greenland, the security of the Arctic and Greenland (security of the North), and the economics of Greenland, natural resources, and critical minerals. Defending North America’s Arctic region requires cooperation between Canada and the United States and involves the coordination and integration of the defense assets and personnel of both countries. This session will examine the pertinent legal and policy matters impacting Canada and the United States, as well as the countries' cooperation and diplomacy with Denmark and Greenland.
