Annual Performance Reviews

Employees benefit from ongoing communication with their supervisors on goals, expectations, skills and performance, both informally during the year and formally via the Annual Performance Review.

Department chairs are required to provide each full-time faculty member in their department with a written summary of their Annual Performance Review. Basic science departments and the clinical science departments based at University Hospitals use a common electronic website or a Word document of the same format for the performance review. Faculty at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and the MetroHealth System are evaluated using their hospital's form.

Annual Performance Reviews follow a general three-to-six-step process, which includes:

  1. Reviewing objectives and setting goals for the upcoming year
  2. Mid-year reviews (not required, but recommended)
  3. End of the year rating period (includes a self-assessment, potential salary increase suggestions, etc.)
  4. Further action if performance issues exist
  5. Compensation review
  6. Closure
