Membership

Student working with a router at the think[box]

Sears think[box] is a free and public-access facility. We welcome everyone to join our community to create, innovate, and explore. Access to think[box] resources requires registering for a membership.

To become a member of the think[box] community, we'll have you register for a think[box] ID card. A think[box] ID card is like a library card. You'll scan your card at our welcome desk to sign in.

If you are a member of any of the following organizations your membership is automatic and you may sign in with your institutional ID card:

  • Case Western Reserve University (CWRU)
  • Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM)
  • Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA)
  • University Hospitals (UH)

Member Registration at think[box]

There are two steps to member registration at think[box]. There's no cost associated with think[box] membership.

Step 1

Fill out our Registration Form. When you submit the form you will receive a confirmation number by text and/or email.

We recommend you do this before you come to think[box]. Otherwise, we will have you fill it out at our welcome desk.

If you are a parent or guardian bringing a minor to think[box], you must also fill out a Minor Registration Form on their behalf. Please see our K-12 policies for more information.

Step 2

When you come to think[box] we'll complete your registration at the front desk. We'll do three things:

  1. Ask for your confirmation number.
  2. Take your picture.
  3. Scan your photo ID (driver's license, passport, school/military ID, etc).

Once you have a think[box] ID card you're a member! You will scan your ID at our welcome desk to sign in each time you visit.

Membership at Sears think[box] is free!

At our welcome desk we can look you up by your name, phone number, or email and sign you in that way. We can also issue you a new card, if needed.

We associate your picture with your ID in our system so we can see your face when you sign in. Your picture will not be on your ID.

We confirm the identity of everyone who uses think[box]. Students, staff, and faculty are already known by the university. We scan photo IDs to confirm the identity of community members.
