Friday, Nov. 8, at 11:59 p.m. ET, is the deadline for upperclass students and transfer undergraduate students to choose the pass/no pass (P/NP) grading option and to withdraw from individual courses.
If you are considering taking either of these enrollment actions, you should review the details below and consult with your four-year advisor. Note that you may continue to process these requests in the Student Information System (SIS) until Friday, Nov. 8, at 11:59 p.m. ET, but staff will not be available in the university registrar or undergraduate advising support offices after 5 p.m. ET.
Pass/no pass grading option
You may choose the pass/no pass grading option for one course each semester (not including summer session), provided that you remain enrolled in at least three credit hours for regular evaluative grades. If you use the P/NP option for a course that is currently counting for a major, minor or general education requirement, you are agreeing to repeat the course for a letter-grade or take another course to meet that requirement in a subsequent semester.
You may process the P/NP option in SIS.
Course withdrawals
If you withdraw from a class, a notation of “W” will show for that class on your transcript and no credit will be earned.
As you make decisions about withdrawing from classes, please pay attention to any implications this will have for academic standing, athletic eligibility, visa status and degree progression. You are strongly encouraged to consult with your four-year advisor if a course withdrawal would leave you enrolled in fewer than 12 credit hours. In addition, you should review your degree requirements with your academic advisor to determine if a course withdrawal will impact your following semester’s plans due to pre- or corequisite course issues.
To withdraw from a course in SIS, follow the same procedure that you use to drop a course during the drop/add period. Be sure to continue the process until you see a screen with a message that you successfully dropped the course and have been given a grade of “W.” If you experience issues with this process, consult with your four-year advisor and send a completed copy of the Drop/Add Form.
After the course withdrawal deadline of Friday, Nov. 8, all students continue to have the opportunity to do a complete term withdrawal until the last day of classes on Friday, Dec. 6. However, students who do a complete term withdrawal after Friday, Nov. 8, may not enroll for the next spring and semesters. If a student feels that they have extenuating circumstances and would like to appeal this policy in order to re-enroll for the fall 2025 semester, they should submit an appeal statement to their four-year advisor in Undergraduate Advising Support. These petitions are reviewed by the Academic Standing Board, and approval is not guaranteed.
