Population and Cancer Prevention

Program Information

The overarching goal of the Population & Cancer Prevention Program is to reduce cancer incidence and improve cancer outcomes in our catchment area, while establishing lessons and models applicable for a state, national and international impact. 

Program Aims

Discover the role of biological factors on cancer risk and prognosis to elucidate the underlying etiology and develop novel interventions.

Current areas of emphasis are multifaceted, including genomics, microbiome, viral-induced carcinogenesis, environmental exposure and biomarker development and application, and focus on multiple cancer sites.

Evaluate and develop social-, behavioral- and population-based interventions for the prevention, screening and reduction of cancer risk, mortality and disparities

Major areas of focus include tobacco usage, obesity and physical activity, social determinants of health, public health policy and the reduction of cancer disparities across the racial, geospatial, and socioeconomic spectrum.

Investigate clinical-based applications for cancer detection and treatment outcomes

Current areas of expertise include cancer screening, quality of life in cancer survivors and both short-and long-term treatment effects.
